🔹 IELTS Speaking Practice

Part 1 (Personal Questions):

  1. What was your favourite subject in school?
  2. Do you prefer studying alone or with others?
  3. What changes would you like to see in your country’s education system?

Sample Answers:

  • My favourite subject was English because it allowed me to express my ideas creatively.
  • I usually prefer studying alone because I can focus better, but sometimes group discussions help me understand more.
  • I’d like schools to focus more on practical skills instead of only theory.

Part 2 (Cue Card):
Describe a teacher who inspired you. You should say:

  • Who the teacher is
  • What subject they taught
  • What was special about them
  • And explain how they influenced you

Sample Answer:
I’d like to talk about my English teacher, Mrs. Silva, who taught me in high school. She was always energetic and passionate about teaching. Instead of just following the textbook, she made classes fun by using videos and debates. Her feedback helped me improve my writing and speaking skills. Because of her, I became more confident in English and decided to take IELTS. She truly inspired me to keep learning and never give up.

Part 3 (Discussion Questions):

  1. What are the advantages of studying abroad?
  2. How has technology changed the way students learn?
  3. Should universities focus more on research or teaching?
  4. Do you think online learning is as effective as classroom learning?

🔹 IELTS Writing Task 2 Practice

Question:
Some people believe that universities should prepare students for specific jobs, while others think they should focus on providing general knowledge.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Sample Answer (Band 8 model):
There is ongoing debate about whether higher education should prepare students for employment or focus on general academic development. Both sides have valid arguments.

On one hand, universities play a vital role in preparing students for the job market. Courses like engineering, business management, and IT provide the practical skills necessary for employment. If universities focus on job-oriented education, graduates can easily find jobs and contribute to the economy.

On the other hand, general education develops critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. These skills are useful in any profession and help individuals adapt to changing job markets. For instance, students who study philosophy or literature often become strong communicators and analytical thinkers.

In my opinion, universities should balance both approaches. A good education should include professional training as well as opportunities for intellectual growth.

🔹 Pronunciation & Speaking Tips

  • Practice stress on key words: “edu-CA-tion”, “uni-VER-si-ty”, “vo-CA-tion-al”
  • Use linking phrases for coherence: “In my opinion…”, “On the other hand…”, “For example…”
  • Avoid using informal words like “kids” in IELTS Writing; use “children” or “students” instead.
