The line graph compares the proportion of people who used the internet in Sri Lanka, India, and the United Kingdom from 2000 to 2020.
Overall, internet usage increased significantly in all three countries, although the UK consistently had the highest percentage throughout the period.
In 2000, only about 5% of Sri Lankans and 10% of Indians had internet access, compared with around 40% in the UK. Over the next decade, usage rose sharply in all countries. By 2010, the figures had reached 30% in Sri Lanka, 25% in India, and nearly 80% in the UK.
By 2020, more than 70% of people in Sri Lanka and 65% in India were using the internet, while the UK reached almost full coverage at 95%. This shows a remarkable closing of the gap between developing and developed nations in terms of digital connectivity.
